Businesses throughout the UK are calling on the Government to introduce fairer business rates.
Following an open letter published in the Daily Telegraph (September 16, 2014) signed by over 100 companies, Boxpod managing director Nick Marlow said the need for fairer rates extends to all businesses, big and small.
He said: “We need fairer business rates. Landlords are being crippled by unrealistic rates applied to commercial property. The overinflated costs of business rates on both occupied and vacant property is putting off both potential tenants and preventing landlords and developers investing in this valuable sector of the economy.
“New business growth is being slowed as the present rates system simply deters and puts off new prospective tenants wanting to start up new businesses which often require a reasonably priced workplace. These taxes are unfair and out of date and a better, fairer rates system would give a huge boost to our economy. This is urgently needed.”
